This sense of pride can lead to an assortment of problems, as this nationalism can be applied to other items on this list.

Other problems like racism can be reason for this nationalism, but strangely enough, the nationalism often comes first. Even though it serves no real function, people can see it as useful for rally and times of war. It just so happened to carry over into the casual and modern-day lives of humans as a meritorious and just cause. Some countries have more of this, and it varies in terms of reasons for it.

A good example of this is Germany in the 1930s and 1940s, where financial insecurity lead to a state of envy and disarray. Most countries define themselves by a strict set of rules. Many of these rules are similarly shared among other countries, including law and order. The problem with many of these countries is that these rules are not evenly applied. How these rules are applied is another difference in many of these countries, especially the ones without democracy. Some places like to subvert certain rules, and in others, it is strictly a part of the undermining culture.

Militarism can become a part of a country’s culture over time. If this is what they defined themselves by before, it can become more deeply imbedded. Be it a force they had to deal with to protect their country from invaders or to invade others themselves. The military has always been an active part of a nation-state.

They may find that their perception and motivation comes from the outside world and certain past accomplishments. Although someone else accomplished this, they can at least feel good about themselves.

Every country has a language, but some countries are using a language that originated somewhere else. While humans like to separate themselves through acts of stupidity based on things like language, there is little to set them all apart. All language does is give us similar ways of communicating the same ideas slightly differently. It is more of an effect in origin, but the small differences can lead to very “hypothetically” different outcomes.

The evolution of language is not all that difficult to figure out, and learning one can be easy. Afterall, it is no doubt that language has been one of those things that sets us apart, at least in theory. Education is one of those things that a country does and almost should take some pride in. The life of a student is crucial, but what they are learning is the most important part. The United States educational system has the best schools in the world, but the overall educational system is lacking. If you can even get into an Ivy League school, you will have your work cut out for you. You may be better off going to a country like Switzerland, which has an overall better education system. Although the Asians are the smartest, it strictly comes from necessity to leave and discipline.

Even if homeschooling were more of a thing, it would still not be the same as going to some lousy university. While the education of a nation relies on this and is important as a whole, it still proves little necessity for the one learning. If anything education at a learning facility can often become ruinous to the one who decided to partake in the system. Although some educational systems are better than others, no one is necessarily void of compromise or without fault. There is also not a single place that is head and shoulders above the best, even with so many countries struggling with poverty. The ways that a country decides to organize in terms of becoming a group effort nationally and internationally are important. If we are not looking at obligatory extremes here, then it provides a functional purpose. Even then, there is probably a need for organization and organizations, but it still has downsides.

The entire earth is still guided by the first-world, and many countries have the privilege of being a part of some kind of international union. This is the half-assed way of pretending to be closer to a one-world government. Even if this should be good enough for now, the reasons many cultures have for avoiding it are dumb. There are unions for workers and even politicians, and then there are trade unions among countries.

If we are talking about an alliance, there was an alliance back in the early 1900s between two sides of a worldwide conflict. Nowadays, we have NATO and even the European Union to thank for at least giving it a shot. The states of the United States became a whole, even if the prospect of separation was secondary.

9. Culture and Heritage
Many people say that diversity is the spice of life, but this is really not that simple. While some people have a specific descent, their heritage should barely matter. Some places like in East Asia, there is a far more homogenous population. This essentially means that there are more people within the same ethnic group there per capita. While mixing can happen, there is barely any population there outside of the natives. This comes down to the culture being so different than the norm, even if Japan comes close to being a Western nation. While everything on this list is essentially culture, culture is informed by heritage.

10. Priority, Politics, and Economics
How a country deals with economics is a massive part of national identity and culture. Be it banking and finance, or how the political system works, there is always something different. Even if there is enough in common, places like to stand out in the worst possible ways, good reason or bad. England, Great Britain, or the United Kingdom as whole likes to use a parliamentary system of government. The United States likes to use a presidential form of democracy. One is outdated and still somehow does the job, and the other is more new and daring. There is one form of government that started it all, and the other did the same thing by invading and conquering. Even then, they are great allies, but there are always tensions between two entirely different forms of government.

The UK likes to praise a queen under a monarchy, but the United States decided to ditch this archaic diplomacy through war and independence. Other countries use a mixture between a republic and a monarchy, and other countries are run by elected or makeshift dictatorships.
