The 10 Amazing Pandemic Worries That Vanished

The 10 Amazing Pandemic Concerns That Vanished
Don’t worry, I’m just shittin’ here.

Yeah, there are new things, but that’s not what I am saying — the zeitgeist seems to have gone by even faster than before. Covid-19 has changed things forever, because of the other 18 strains? The things that kicked it off made it so interesting to see such an unsettling change kind of made it more intriguing. Here are some of the biggest concerns with coronavirus and how they disappeared, at least in some way. These are the 10 amazing pandemic concerns that just vanished, especially in the US.

The 10 Amazing Pandemic Concerns That Vanished

1. Toilet Paper

Remember when getting toilet paper at he store was a thing? Any kind of wipe, paper, or piece of rag you could use to wipe your posterior was out of stock. People were showing up in droves just to get in a fight over the last role. Wasn’t that just a laugh? It reminded me of Black Friday, where people just wait in line for hours only to get trampled by Bob who showed up last minute to get that 20% off dish set.

Well, at least as far as I am concerned, the toilet paper shortage has come and pass, or has it? Maybe some of the stores are still having problem keeping them in stock, but you do not seem to hear about it in the news anymore. However, the general population at large is also going back into hoarding mode as fears of Covid-19 skyrocket again.

2. Hand Sanitizer

Hand sanitizer was all the talk back at the beginning of last year, but it strangely went away after a while. While some of these concerns may have never gone away, the spotlight on them did. Along with toilet paper, hand sanitizer was selling out like hotcakes at stores across the world, especially America. People online were even hoarding it and trying to sell it for extremely high prices. That’s why they say to wash your hands, kids. If you have soap and water, the need for hand sanitizer extends only to having it for getting back in your car after a shopping trip.

3. Social Distancing

At least in the US, social distancing has become a thing of the past. People are hanging out, their favorite bar is open, and they are just chilling out with their buds like the pandemic isn’t even happening. There are even new strains coming from South Africa, Brazil and England, and that’s not even all the rage anymore. Also, remember that 6-foot rule? Yeah, well, that doesn’t seem to be a thing anymore in a multitude of ways. On a small scale, any place can have it’s issues with keeping that 6-feet away, but country by country, certain places are doing far worse.

Does this mean that people are just fed up with the response, ignorant, or just never gave a crap for whatever reason to begin with? Yeah, because people are sick, especially in the US, of the fear of getting sick. They want to go out with their friends in secret get togethers, probably thinking that it will do no harm, etc. As mentioned before, many things disappear for different reasons, and it makes sense, but the context as to what it is and why do make a difference.

4. Masks

The way that masks have vanished is a little bit different. At least from my point of view, masks have taken a nose dive in terms of how seriously people take the value of them. Beyond not being as much of a concern for news coverage, people out in public are succumbing to disconcerting carelessness. It seems that most folks are walking around with no concern of masks, at least not as much as they should. You cannot breathe? Yeah, right! Masks make it worse? Sure they do! Masks help more than just about any other precaution you can take.

If they are told to wear one, they will “Karen out” and lose their crap over it. They are even selling a mask dedicated to all of the angry Karens out there. It’s not to say that they would only get upset about masks, but there was a huge influx of Karen videos related to masks not being worn in their favorite corporations. It was also heard that people were coughing and spitting on merchandise just to lash out.

5. Hand Washing

Remember the 20 second rule that everyone was supposed to follow? You know, scrub between the hands with warm or hot water and lather with soap to seal the deal. Yeah, it seems to have become a thing of the past. While I’m sure that it is still true, I do not think that most people remember. It is a possibility that some people are still considering it, but the concern seems to have mostly been thrown out the window, at least by the news.

Many of these things are just part of the culture now, so if it is not mentioned, it is because it’s “common” now. The idea of washing your hands for twenty seconds was so important for a while, that even people were thinking of songs to sing while doing it. Be it that people were used to washing for less time that that, or the culture train made it more appealing to make it a thing, especially online. Washing your hands and the songs essentially became a meme.

6. Gloves

Remember when gloves was all the rage? Well, that concern seems to have fallen to the wayside. It appears to have gone away when people found out that gloves would not necessarily help you. It’s not to say that most people were wearing gloves to the store, because they were not, but it is always nice to see someone considering the other person. It was not because the virus would get to you anyway, it just became known that gloves were unnecessary at quelling the coronavirus, and it may have even made it worse.

The CDC would recommend against wearing gloves in public. The CDC was also held under intense scrutiny for not being accountable for some misinformation being spread worldwide. I wonder what caused this? Hey, even the CDC can make mistakes, right? Oftentimes, people would not be taking the proper precautions while wearing gloves to justify glove use to begin with. If only people were prepared for this pandemic, but many people were not. Using gloves properly can help, it just isn’t worth it if you do not know what you are doing.

7. Staying At Home

Staying inside? Is that even a thing? This is kind of a part of the whole social distancing concern, but it was it’s own thing. Most people have been getting fed up with the inadequacy of the response to the pandemic. In response to this, they took to the streets with their own hands. Not just in marches, parades and protests, but by going around, getting laid and saying “screw you” to the man. Staying indoors also increases the risk of contracting the virus via air vents, and it can even cause melanoma.

The initial idea was to stay inside unless you absolutely have to leave, they were even allowing senior citizens to have the grocery stores to themselves in the morning. This is knowing that people are always ready to rush out to hang out at the local Wal-Mart from dusk till dawn because work isn’t a thing anymore. Also, since the response has been so bad, people cannot stay inside at home because they have jobs to do. In the end though, it seems people have migrated out of their office buildings. Depending on the job, many people are now working from home. It just has not been a big deal since it first became a thing.

8. Hand Shakes

Oh, the elbow bump! What fond memories we have of this lovely suit and tie gesture. It was even said that Covid-19 may end up changing handshake habits forever. Where did all of the creative ideas go? Personally, I do not remember seeing anyone do it to begin with. It was typically shown on the news as a great alternative way to greet friends and family, if need be.

While it can be seen that ideas like these simply fade because they are not in the zeitgeist anymore, it does not mean the idea has to go away. They probably have not, but hearing about it is gone, and people are probably going in for that dirty hand again, glove or not. People are probably shaking butt cheeks now, but at least it is safe, not the hands, and a great way to say hello to a long lost friend!

9. Work and Closed Businesses

Not only have many businesses closed, the concern for keeping them in business has gone out the door. PPP loans went to small businesses, but it did not really help that much. With such a slow and steady roll out of help, many small businesses went bankrupt or out of business completely. Does anyone even care? Also, any loan a US small business needed went to large corporations as well! Even large businesses qualified for federal help, instead of just leaving it for businesses that needed it. Nice excuse, politicians!

Yeah, we know work disappeared because, not only were employees taking pay cuts, businesses were closing. Healthcare workers are being forced to be around those sick with the virus all the time, and even some suicides have been reported in the field. The pandemic was requiring small businesses to close. Eventually some opened again, but many did not stay open for long before going out of business or bankrupt. Since the pandemic and other things have been having so much of an impact, it’s barely a concern and an accepted part of life now. Are you hearing about Joe’s Little Mart anymore? No, and you never did.

10. Protests

I don’t know about anyone else, but the streets seem to have died down a bit. The ironic concerns for Antifa seemed to be running the airwaves. People were sweating on the streets, and there was literal blood being drawn. There were protests from the get go fighting for freedom from government in the face of the virus. There were also protests concerning the American presidential election, the killing of George Floyd, and so on. People went to the streets to occasionally fight for a cause worth fighting for, and some even did it responsibly. Worldwide anti-lockdown protest around the world erupted, causing a spike in June of last year.

Yeah, you still had the wild good marching around the Capitol claiming that the election was stolen. However, where are the real freedom fighters? Those fighting for George Floyd, police brutality and Black Lives Matter. Yeah, like the dodo, everything eventually fades out; however, it seemed like the protests were continuing to happen everywhere, but the coverage seemed to have stopped. Before long, they fizzled out, but the fight for power in the face of a pandemic really did show the world what actual progress can look like, even if it meant to defund the police.
