The 10 Amazing Reasons Why the Algorithm Sucks

10 Reasons Why the Algorithm Sucks
Yeah, this is the shitty so-called future that you’re asking for.

As we all know, the internet (and the world) is run by an algorithm; this means that we’re all pretty much screwed. (There are people involved in what we see and do, but it’s mostly a datamining script that controls our interpersonal destiny.) This also means that there aren’t many people around, but it doesn’t stop the engineering team from personally allowing the AI computational systems to dominate. Of course, it doesn’t always command itself this way, but there are plenty of “people” involved in every way that will allow the “algorithm to screw you over. It doesn’t necessarily matter which algorithm you’re using, but they all likely make a difference that is worse. (Nearly all algorithms are the same; however, there are some minor differences.) Especially if you’re trying to avoid the pitfalls of the internet, you’ll be finding just about every problem involved. Although, if you think that we cannot change it, then you’re sorely mistaken. We certainly can, and these are the 10 reasons why the algorithm sucks!

Not all algorithms are the same, but they serve the same statistical function. It’s really not that hard to figure out, and the function and engineering behind the algorithm proves it. Also, just to make it even more clear, designing an algorithm doesn’t present much of a challenge! You simply hire a team of chodes that will cater their poor design choices for a bunch of rich and selfish crackheads.

10 Reasons Why the Algorithm Sucks

1. Advertisements

Every time you go on to social media or some other sellout website, what do you usually see? Of course, this is a rhetorical question, but the obvious answer to this question is that you often see a slew of advertisements. (Ads are not necessarily bad on their own, but they do produce unseen friction between the users and “owners.”) Although, at this point, we can probably say that ads are the problem, and, at least to some degree, they are! Furthermore, the advertisements run by the megacorporation are essentially there to keep their ad-revenue returns on the surplus … . (It’s all about products — it’s the line of supply & demand.) However, the point of ads is clear, and it’s there to provide the outcome of commerce. Unfortunately, the problem with this is that it’s all taken way too far, and the ads are there to cater to what the algorithm thinks that you want. And while some ads may not seem bad, the push for exclusive ads (catered to you) has made the algorithm that much more sinister in the end.

2. Privacy

The algorithm, especially on social media websites (apps), tends to share your personal data to advertisement agencies to help them sell products. (It may not seem that way, but your publicly/personally shared data is always stored on these sites, even if you’re the only one seeing them.) Of course, this further allows the public shareholders to make a buck on top of the corporations who are selling their ads to their so-called consumers. However, to make these sticky matters even worse, Facebook is guiding this place by providing space and making revenue in return during the entire process. What does this mean? Well, it essentially means that you only serve as a public guineapig and “consumer” for unadulterated profit! Although, it doesn’t “always” work this way, as it also provides a more pleasing avenue for more malicious activities to take place. And to make this crapshoot even more foreboding, it gives hackers a place to breach the information on these sites without a problem.

3. Repetition

If you thought that you were going insane while searching for that latest update to your personal family drama, then you are certainly not! Thankfully, the algorithm does provide you — it’s not exceptionally often — with “easier” results (at times); however, what’s the point if it’s not the main intention. (Going absolutely insane is exactly what the cruddy algorithm wants you to do.) In fact, the world/internet wants you to feel crazy, insane, and misguided while it also pretends to provide you with Band-Aids for your personal wounds. “What does this mean?” you ask. Well, it means that the online world entirely consists of a bevy of zero-sum games that do little to provide for the consumer. Of course, we can always blame the customers here, but the modern-day nuisance is provided by the websites. (Everyone is the problem here, and this means that different kinds of change have to occur.) Now, we can say that everyone is involved, and it then becomes a circle-jerk of satisfying the buyer’s and seller’s markets … .

4. Monopolization

As we all should know, Google essentially runs the internet, and Facebook runs most of the important social media platforms, i.e., the meta platform. (You also have Twitter, Reddit, Pinterest, etcetera.) Unfortunately, these websites have always run the drag show, and things have only been getting much worse (since 2005 [Myspace]). Of course, it has always been crap, and there is always something just as nefarious to takes it’s place! (Google was losing money for several years [they already had money to waste] before they gained their foothold as a search engine.) However, there are things that we can actually do to help fix this petty power of monopolization and investment. It’s just that the market now is too large and too big to fail! Thankfully, it’s just a matter of will power and motivation!

To begin, you can always “ignore” the ads; however, just enough people click on them to make them count anyway. (Ad streaming is exactly why the internet is the way it is, but you should not allow them to make you believe that any of this is actually required.) Of course, ignoring them makes some difference, but, at the same time, more is required. You may not have to deal with them when you’re using an ad-blocking service, but it doesn’t make the problem go away. And although ads are separate from the algorithm, they’re the primary reason why it exists to begin with. Lastly, who said that we need corps or monopolization to begin with? That’s right, no one! If anything, you can always provide without a need for consumerism, as someone better should come along to build it better from the ground up.

5. The Followers

Part of the problem with companies is the rationale that you hear from their stupid followers. “Yeah, but what do their followers say?” you ask. Well, they politely and ironically say, “If you offer no viable alternatives, then you shouldn’t complain about the outcome.” And guess what, this is the worst rationale/excuse that anyone can possibly bring up. Why? Because it’s very, very stupid! The basis of the complaint (from most people) comes from the fact that there are other alternatives. There are also very viable ones that do not include wiping ads from the face of the planet. However, this is not what they want to believe, as their reasoning involves a list of black-and-white alternatives that leave rationality and logic on the backburner. However, what could we do? Well, for one, we could certainly sanction the internet so that corporations have less control over what is viable and not. We could also reduce the number of ads while also increasing the quality of them without alienating those of us who want a steady source of income.

6. The AI

The worst algorithmic choice that is creating a lot of issues is its extreme disconnection and lack of involvement from other living beings. And, at least with an AI algorithm, there aren’t any real people behind the scenes, at least for the most part. Of course, there are people who programmed the internal systems of the “AI,” but that’s as far as it usually goes. In fact, it’s completely impersonal, and it’s simply another way to shorten the supply chain so that the billionaires in charge have less to pay for. Furthermore, there’s also no doubt that creating alternatives should not be required, but those who think this way are often not looking for solutions. However, proper check and balances should come along with time, but no one is necessarily saying that everything has to change. And although this is part of the “necessary evil,” not every component needs to stay in place. Of course, a lot is easy to change, so why not do it! It’s just important to know that you have no one to blame when things go wrong.

7. It Takes Away Work

If we’re being honest, then we must understand that the only reason why people justify the existence of an algorithm is because they’re not aware of the actual downsides. (You lose a lot of arbitrary jobs that have been completely trivialized.) They also like to picture themselves controlling things while also thinking that it’s the most efficient way to the “future. Although, while this so-called futurist mindset has horribly permeated the modern culture, we should also understand how this is not always the problem.

However, the real problem is a lot simpler than that, and there’s not much that we should do about it. (We cannot change where the future is headed, but we can always alter it so that the excuses that people make become sidelined.) Of course, this also comes with a lack of accountability, but if it were used appropriately then it would be fine. However, on principle, there are people who struggle how to accept actual efficiency — there are “better” ways to get the job done. And although contriving jobs seems rather obtuse, it’s the only thing that gives many humans hope that something can go on. Regardless, the biggest thing to understand is that ignorance is everywhere, including on both sides here!

8. The Shadow Ban

Believe it or not, most people aren’t even aware that an AI is running their search results. In fact, the vast majority of modern humans do not even understand what an algorithm is! And although this seems rather obnoxious, to make such a presumption against someone’s intelligence is rather unforgiving. Why? Well, it’s because like the AI trying to replicate human behavior (at least somewhat), it’s also trying to keep you uninvolved. Of course, this typically happens against your will, and you’re often none the wiser. This means that if you speak up against the almighty godfathers, you will certainly be shut down or SHADOWBANNED! Now, although this isn’t necessarily an algorithmic issue, the algorithm is a certainly a sign of things to come. (We’ve become extremely complacent.) Even if you’re a well-behaved drone, you will still see yourself get pushed aside and erased from internet history. Again, no judgement is put in place, and all you have to do is break the minor, unspoken rules once to disappear for good.

9. Fakery

People who fake their way to success are only as good as their veneer; however, this charade doesn’t end there. There are hackers and bad-faith charlatans around every corner looking to exploit the shortcomings of this “algorithm,” and they’re obviously not on your side either. Another part of this equation are the excessive bots that “exist” online, but there is also reason to believe that the algorithm is engineering this as well. (You’re constantly undermined through the shortcuts that the internet creates for you, and it’s by design.) Of course, it’s never for our own good, but this never stops the AI from scaling our problems down to numbers on a spreadsheet. Although, it doesn’t have to be this way! And thankfully, we can protect ourselves, albeit through the means that the internet gives us. However, in the end, we’ve been taken for a fool! No matter what we do or try, we’ve been led astray, even if it appears as though we’re given no other choice. At the end of the day, it’s capitalism at it’s absolute finest!

10. The Racketeering

Whomever it was who thought that the world of datamined racketeering was a good idea needs to get their screws checked. Why? Because we’re all being used and abused, be it through the system that claims to support us or the people who claim to help us. We’re obviously being used for our stupidity, and then it’s off to the highest bidder. (The websites you visit care not for a lot of things: you, your feelings, and your loved ones.) Although, if it’s not our money, then it’s our user status on our favorite website that makes us another product to auction off to the richest “contractor.” Furthermore, we’ve got the scam artists on every single website looking to screw us over, and the stock trade mucks on every person not looking to bluff their way to the top. And fortunately, the problem here is certainly avoidable, but it would be worthy of complaint even if it were not. In the end, people simply do not want to accept it, and they just ignore it if they do. The end result is you then being blacklisted and exposed!

Ending

As you can see, there are plenty of ways that the public domain has been breached, and it’s against any benefit of your own. Of course, people are not always the problem, but they are the ones using the pipeline while also being complacent towards negative change. This is obviously a problem with most people, but who’s to stop those of who are creating the problem to begin with. It’s the path of least resistance, and we’re stuck living the unfortunate lie that confines our existence. It’s also kind of ironic that I’m speaking about this, as they algorithm is likely to sink this article into the ground. Unfortunately, my website has probably been in the dirt for a long time, which is extremely funny! To verify, you can use their ad service and still get used for a hoop no matter how hard you try. After all, they’re simply after your clicks and money, and when they cannot do that legitimately, then they simply use you like you do not exist. At that point, you can then choose to spend with your wallet and dignity, hopefully.

Unfortunately, there’s a political slant in all of this as well.
