The 10 Worst Genres of Music

Every time you turn on the car radio, you’re probably listening to something that you do not like. Although it may be the correct radio station, you will nevertheless struggle to find a “song” that perfectly hits home for you. Instead of wasting time and trying to figure out what the problem is, you could be understanding what the real problem is. “What is this real problem?” you ask. Well, the problem is that you are not listening to something great, and it can come down to the genre and what you can do about it. In the end, these are the 10 worst genres of music, at least in my (objective) opinion.

The 10 Worst Genres of Music

Well, some genres are more specific than others.

The Music Guy

1. Rap

Well, we all knew that it was coming, and there is no doubting it’s inclusion on this list. If you want to know about it though, then you came to the right place. However, at this point, you probably already know, but here: Rap is probably one of the worst bandwagon zeitgeists that you can jump on right now, respectively. Of course, this can range from the hip-hop subculture to the country wagon of including it in your library of favorite genres. In spite of this, there is some decent rap music, at least in terms of delivering a clever message, but this doesn’t mean that the genre as a whole is fantastic.

2. Country

If you want to know one of the worst ways to get out of the bed in the morning, then listening to country music will remind you of this daily struggle. Thankfully, you don’t have to actively listen to country, at least the crappiest country music, on the average radio station. Even then, there are plenty of people who love to entail the likes of a cowboy and republican lifestyle. Afterall, not only does it mention the easy, simple things in life, but the genre also has to have the slang and works. To make it even better though, you have to make sure that you have a southern accent when singing this genre of music. In the end, that is what makes it so hard to listen to … on top of the dullard shenanigans.

3. “Pop”

When it comes to pop music, it really depends on what you are listening to. Of course, there are always decent songs in any genre, but this is also questionable. If we’re talking about the trend though, then just about every aspect of pop music can be scrutinized. Especially nowadays, the music that comes from the pop subculture is asinine at best. Not all pop music is bad, but there is also something to say about what becomes fashionable enough to be considered popular music. Regardless, some pop music is better than others, but today’s music of simplistic and easy-to-process music makes it a problem.

The 10 Worst Genres of Music

4. Christian

To make this list even better, we have to mention how Christian music makes the world go round. Of course, this would be a fabrication, as just about no one reasonable listens to this godly sort of musical harmony. There are those people out there though, and the Christian subculture really does permeate just about every genre of music out there. However, if we’re being entirely honest, country and Christian music are often synonymous with one another. The rock genre is also covered with all sorts of Christian fluids that end up giving the genre as a whole a bad name when the likes of Jesus show up.

The 10 Worst Genres of Music

5. Metal

At this point, it probably looks like I am going to include every genre of music on this list. With this consideration though, you wouldn’t be too far off. Of course, we have to understand how almost every genre sucks to some degree, i.e., a bad song and bad habits. However, on the same token, you have to also understand how certain genres or subgenres lack any real character. We can obviously include every genre, but the description and context counts. Afterall, on this lovely list is also metal music, and to be honest, it really does suck, especially when you get to the worst of it. If anything though, it’s simply a case of the worst dragging this somewhat decent genre down to the near-bottom of the barrel.

The 10 Worst Genres of Music

6. World

World music is one of those weird genres of music that you often (possibly) hear on random channels on the radio. Nevertheless, if it sounds like it is not from the United States or England, then it can probably be considered tribal or traditional music — world music. Of course, this is mostly irrelevant, as we all have the option to choose our own music at this point in time. Regardless of this, we have to understand how most music outside of the US and UK struggles to make it anywhere. And armed with this fruitful knowledge, we can probably understand why. Even then, it is not to say that some of it cannot wistfully put you to sleep, in spite its lack of a powerful and harmonizing melody.

7. Elevator/Disco

Elevator music is not so much a genre of music as it is a kind of music that you hear radioed in an elevator. However, when it comes to the genre of music that you hear in an elevator, it can depend on the lift that you’re attending. There are obviously derivative and common songs that you hear, and it often boils down to the same kind of basic music. This kind of music is called easy-listening music, such as world music, soft rock, and pop music. It is often played at very low volumes, and it’s there to ease your ride on the claustrophobic elevator. Nevertheless, the music that you hear is often of low quality, both in it’s playback and songwriting, so it deserves a spot on this list for that simple fact alone.

Also, disco and even the hippie-loving music is total garbage, too.

A Given

8. Punk

Of course, at this point, it probably seems like this list is mocking musicians and looking to prove the satire of modern music. However, there is plenty of reason to plainly include the likes of punk rock on this list. Afterall, as an alternative rock genre, punk rock has a lot to stack itself up against. Unfortunately, there is much about punk rock that sees itself falling short. “Why is this?” you ask. Well, it depends, but it doesn’t mean that there isn’t at least some room to make its simplicity great. In fact, a lot of people relate to the music, but this probably comes from the wrong place. Nevertheless, there are good songs that come from the punk rock genre, and what the genre is considered decent. Regardless, the reasons matter, and it’s just another case of the occasional decent song rising from the turd pile.

The 10 Worst Genres of Music

9. Folk

When it comes down to it, there are plenty of people who enjoy the likes of folk music. There happens to be a lot of charm and easy-listening involved, and it judicially serves as the modern-day rock ‘n’ roll equivalent. Unfortunately, a lot about the genre is old news, and the derivative nature of how each song sounds makes the entire genre responsible. However, if people kept the songs interesting and unique, then it wouldn’t be so bad. It’s just a sad fact that this useless genre is naturally limited in this way as well. Again, how many times have you listened to what sounds like the exact same song. Of course, this is a rhetorical question, as it doesn’t even require an answer — it all sounds the exact same.

The 10 Worst Genres of Music

10. Indie

To make this clear, there is obviously going to be some crossover between this and other items on the list. “What is this mismatch of inclusions?” you ask. Well, it has to do with the fact that Indie is another general term for various forms of independent music. This usually means that the record label that signed the musical act is smaller in size and even influence. In the end, this explains a lot about what kind of music that not only makes it somewhat big but what also doesn’t become a headliner. Of course, this is rather sad, as independence should mean that band is more creative and unusual.

Regardless of this, most of the music under the indie label happens to be folk and punk rock music, at least nowadays. “Is there anything wrong with this?” you ask. Well, of course not, but at the same time, most of what Indie music consists of is stale, needless, and almost uninteresting. However, it is not to say that everything that becomes famous is glowing with talent either. Unfortunately, just about everything that is considered “indie” is also worthy of ending itself at that useless measure of underground popularity. Then again, it does come down to the genre, band, album, and song.

The 10 Worst Genres of Music

Ending

As you can see, there are plenty of kinds of music that are subpar when compared to other genres. Of course, this is simply my somewhat satirical opinion, but there are some objective traits involved here as well. However, even though I didn’t mention the likes of rock music, there is plenty of “rock” music that would be included. Thankfully, most of what rock exemplifies doesn’t make it appear on this list, at least this far up. On the other side of that coin, we can also mention the other various subgenres of music that deserve their own spot on this list, i.e., disco. Unfortunately, there’s only so much room, and some music can be relegated to the “not important enough to mention” category as well.

If you took offense to this list, then I sincerely apologize to you ahead of time.
