The 10 Amazing Ways You Can Waste Your Time

The 10 Worst Ways to Waste Time
I wonder if I am being ironic.

The 10 Worst Ways to Waste Time

Just about everything we do can be considered a waste of time, but some things waste more time more often. Even if you are only doing that one thing for just a few minutes, you could be wasting a lot of time. While some of these things are productive to some degree, they still end up being a waste of time in the end. It is not to say that the context does not matter, as some things are a waste of time depending on what else you could be doing. Regardless of this, a lot of the things are a waste of time no matter what you could be doing. These are the 10 worst ways to waste time, even if you think otherwise.

There is always something better you could be doing, but not everything on this list will necessarily reflect that. If anything, this list provides some judgmental but informed opinions about some of the most popular pastimes. It goes to show just how anything can be considered a waste of time, even if we think otherwise. The list could go on forever, but these are the things that end up being the biggest wastes of time no matter what. In the end, it is just an “opinion,” but you may be able to learn a thing or two through a more objective perspective. The subjectivity makes it valid enough, but some people still struggle with this. Even though you may disagree, there are still things you cannot ignore. These are the 10 ways to waste your time, but they are better off ignored.

The 10 Worst Ways to Waste Time

1. Watch the News

If you are watching the news, you are wasting a lot of your time for no good reason. While you can be informing yourself of something, you are generally getting the worst scoop possible. For most, it is almost an entirely bad thing to watch the news, as people tend to make it more malicious. If you are intelligent, then you are wasting your time on what you already know.

Smart people do not watch the news anyway, so it almost acts as a prerequisite. You will end up hearing the biggest news stories anyway, but most of them are not worth knowing. We see it all of the time, but most times, people turn the news into an echo chamber. Most people do little about what the latest thing in politics is anyway, as it serves little purpose. The news is there to keep you hooked, but the hook of the news is there to deceive.

It will do little good for you to inform yourself more when you already know what is happening. The news happens to be there, but it is there because it serves as a fearmongering distraction. It is not to say that you cannot watch it, as people will, but be sure to watch it on your own time. People often overplay the importance of news while telling you that you are better off not watching it. The problem is that most people do not understand the news as a blatant waste of time. There are better ways to inform yourself, and there are better things to inform yourself of. While you can still gain something from the news, it still serves as a waste of time more than anything. Also, be sure to understand that you will walk out even worse for it in the end if you watch it.

The same can be applied to any kind of celebrity news you watch, but everyone already knows this. This is a vice people have, but it does not make it any less stupid or a waste of time. While we can learn things from the news we watch, we do little with any message it can send. No matter what we can be informed of, it perpetuates more bad and ends up being a complete waste.

There is nothing we can gain through watching celebrities foil themselves. The message only proves useful because it happens to be there to begin with. If these are not lessons we have already learned, then there is no hope in learning it now. The more we perpetuate this negative thinking, the more it ends up with nothing to show for it. No matter what we do to change it, watching the news is almost an entire waste of time.

The 10 Worst Ways to Waste Time

2. Play Videogames

If you are the kind of person who plays videogames all of the time, then you are a waste of time yourself. While there is nothing wrong with playing videogames from time to time, they are still a waste of time. You could be playing them for as little as two hours a day, but this fun is still better placed elsewhere. No matter how you want to break it down, you are simply a useless person sitting there who is riding someone else’s coattail. Although videogames are all about escapism, we could all be doing something far more productive. It does little for anger and frustration, as you can find more efficient ways to do this without addiction.

Videogames are known as the biggest time waster, and this description has stuck ever since they were created. It is an interactive IP that sells itself on losing yourself in the game, but the real world still needs help. The problem lies in the fact that people do not want to be productive whatsoever. What is being said here is not satire or sarcasm, as videogaming folk are some of the worst people alive. Not only are they full of themselves, they look for meaningful accomplishments in the dumbest possible ways. There is nothing better in finding accomplishment from the game of chess, but at least people can make real money playing it. While you can play a game of dice, people typically wasted little time playing it. Board games are not much better, but they were more prominent in a world that could waste more time.

We all know that videogames are dumb, but they can of course be fun for dumb reasons. Even though I am all for avoiding people and sitting around all day, videogames provide little incentive to keep people intelligent. You gain little in the process of playing them, and if anything, the contrived challenge of beating them does little. There is no true skill you can train that does you good in the real world, unless you are playing videogame chess. You could always be doing the gaming better elsewhere, but since it is a trend, we condone it. Even if some videogamers happen to be smart, the videogames had little to do with it. If intelligence is drawn to gaming, then it happens to be in very small numbers through vice.

You will simply move on to the next game or replay the same incessantly redundant experience over and over again. We will feel anger and even borderline abuse yourself playing them, even though they should be fun. Some people even cheat to win the game, defeating the point of the stupid game to begin with. Anyone would think this considering the price, but they end up being a waste of money. They are getting more and more expensive, and the people who play them are either too heavy or anorexic. Most videogame defenders produce little to nothing outside of playing a game, even if they have a job. They were made to be lazy or to show just how little a game accomplishes something.

While we have gotten over a hump where videogames are seen as a loser’s fun, there is truth here. Unfortunately, this means that far too many people are now wasting their time because of a cool fad. No matter the good you gain from a videogame, they serve little function except in their creation. We are already trying to jump into the virtual reality phase with little to show for it. Some games are there just to waste your time, but they pressure it under the guise of performance. You can still do what you do, but it makes little difference in the truth. Although you are sitting there and taking offense to this (or not), you are still wasting your time in denial.

The 10 Worst Ways to Waste Time

3. Think Too Much

If you are the kind of person who is thinking too much, then you are wasting your damn time as well. While we are all wasting time not thinking enough, at least we are not wasting our time by going overboard. It ends up causing problems, i.e., second-guessing, circular thinking, etcetera. There is even an age-old question about how much we should think before it becomes a problem. Thinking is self-destructive, but at the same time, many things require thought. There is no way to avoid some of the insanity that comes with it, as it is a part of the process to begin with. We are here to solve problems, and since thinking can lead to many dead end paths, we can suffer for it. There is nothing like wasting time, but wasting time thinking about it is the worst.

To get caught up in the thinking process is a waste of time, but some people cannot help it. It is easy to use your imagination and allow it to get the best of you for no good reason. Since our mind is what we can often fall back on in times of hardship, the habit can become solidified far too much. We can all end up thinking in excess, but some of us to do it far more and worse than others.

There is no escape from the world or our mind, and this pain can get the best of us. Although, it should also be stated that most people barely think at all. While giving credit where credit is due is important, the average person tends to do this too much. If anything, most people simply think too much in the wrong direction. There is no right answer but the ideal of being able to make perfect decisions on the spot.

If anything, the idiot who cannot even tie his laces is struggling less with time wasting while being lost in thought. There are some smart people who make the process worth it, but it can still end in failure. Some of the dumbest people think the most, but it is only because they are thinking too much for their brain to handle. Even if it only involves a little bit of thinking, most people cannot make sense of it. I am all for understanding pain and living a schizoid life, but I also understand needlessness. Your thinking has got to be productive, but we cannot always do this kind of thinking efficiently. With practice, we can get better, but any kind of perfection is a lost cause not worth fighting for. Be it a mental illness or a daily task, any kind of thinking like this generally goes unnoticed.

Even though we are always thinking too much to some degree, it does not mean that it is not a waste of time. The feelings of worry and anxiety often fuel this waste, but it is still up to us to do something about it. There is no use in wallowing away in a fit of self-pity and shame, but we all happen to do it anyway. Instead of making excuses and blaming the outside world, we could find more productive ways to reconcile. The problem is that most people do not even reach the point of understanding where true blame lies. Since we are all stuck living our lives, we tend to keep it to ourselves and act like we are doing the world justice. At the same time, we are allowing all sorts of bad things to happen without even batting an eyelash.

There is incentive to do better, but along the way, there are pitfalls we must traverse. The practicality of thinking on your feet and learning to be okay by letting go of what makes it worse is important. While we can all think too much, very few of us make it worth it, and even fewer of us deal with a problem. We can all do better, but some of us are almost thinking ourselves into a grave of vice and mental instability. This ultimately makes invalidating any excess thinking more of a breeze.

Thinking in repetitive circles did little to help anyone, but this is what sets true thinkers apart from the ones actually waster their time. If you think, you have to put effort in, especially when it seems like you are going nowhere. If it takes some time, then it is better than sitting there and thinking until the thought is finally had. We can end up thinking and feeling something entirely untrue, but this is a byproduct of the thinking we excuse too much.

The 10 Worst Ways to Waste Time

4. Exercise

I can say that eating or cooking food is a waste of time, but exercise might take the spot. We can make just about anything a waste of time, but we can also pretend that nothing is a waste. It really depends on what we are all trying to defend through belief and personal reference. There is an ego in all of us, and it requires protecting against when other egos are around. People can also change their minds and say something for the wrong reason when it’s convenient. There are too few people who will actually insult the things they do, as they are looking insularly. If they do, they are looking for brownie points without actually understanding the thing they are proclaiming. All in all, we all tend to do a lot of the wrong things for the wrong reasons, ultimately.

Although exercise is good for you, it really depends on the context. A lot of people end up working out and wasting their time by compensating for poor eating habits. If you do it too much, then you are likely doing little to compensate for other health problems. Some people may only exercise to throw it all away with poor execution or as an excuse for failure. It depends on the context, but there is a lot of time wasted in this almost frivolous pastime. No matter how you think about it, there is no real way to make exercise useful. Even if you are the kind of person who moseys on a little walk, you are still doing little for your body. While you can make it useful in your head, it tends to get overshadowed by what the truth entails.

This is no excuse not to exercise, as it is generally a decent thing to add to your life. There is nothing inherently wrong with it, but it tends to be how people abuse it. It is far too popular to ignore, but the mistakes are all to common to not point out. They often build it up in their head as something magnificent, but it turns out to be pain with little gain.

If we are going to scrutinize exercise philosophically, we can understand it’s needlessness even more. When you exercise, you are attempting to make your life better through visual appeasement or longevity of old age. To exercise is to live a life of pain that could even end your life sooner. While this is a seemingly debunked claim, it still remains true to some degree. We can all end up ill no matter the exercise, and in the end, we wasted time convincing ourselves that the runner’s high was worth the pain.

We are reinforcing what would be a problem if we were to live in the wild. All of this exercise serves little function except to jumpstart the heart and work our cardiovascular system. It becomes even worse when we consider weightlifting an exercise in the modern day. We are reinforcing our insecurities while doing something that most people find unappealing. While it may seem like it is not a waste of time to some, it is only through common convincing that this happens. Many people are living now to die another day, but we show appreciation through events like the Olympics. The Olympic games are not only a waste of time, but they are a waste of money. Since exercise cannot be appreciated on it’s own, we have to tend to our tribalistic instincts to make throwing a ball worthwhile.

The 10 Worst Ways to Waste Time

5. Being Religious

There is nothing worse than a religious person who thinks they know better when they obviously do not. If they are not displaying this behavior, then they are hiding it under the pretense of kindness. To be humble in the face of a god through deceit or true belief only proves that you should be humble. If you know nothing, then the truth is obviously something that should be envied as a god. Unless there is some kind of scam in pretending to be a religious person, it serves little purpose. There are even people who claim that we cannot know a truth, but they waste their time philosophizing in fact. The problem is contained to them, but there is a waste of time when reaching a truth through stupidity. This ultimately means that religious thinking is a waste of time on top of being a deceptive threat.

The only kind of people who would be fooled are religious people, as they are the ones falling for tripe to begin with. If you are pretending to be religious or happen to actually be religious, you are wasting your time. A waste of time can come in all forms, even if it makes you a little bit of money. It may seem aimless, but promoting religion as a whole does little good for society. This is what truly matters, but most people tend to forget this along with it’s maliciousness.

We all think that considering something a waste is subjective, even the most “rational” of us. The problem is that the most rational of us can actually trace the claims back with objective truths. If we are not here to convince anyone, we are ultimately doing little for ourselves. Even if it seems like an impossible task, it certainly is not, but it goes to show the laziness we have in thinking. We all know how religion is a waste, but at the same time, we can understand why people would disagree.

A person can claim to be a person of love, but it can go to show where their mind is at. What a person claims does not necessarily reflect their mind, but it can speak volumes of it. We can look at details with more scrutiny, but this is the perspective they have of themselves. It is not to say that it is less legitimate, but it goes to show how little someone thinks about reality. They can follow reality as seen through their eyes, but they are still in a reality, even to them.

Their thoughts are real, but the truth can certainly disagree with a misguided sentiment that does little but provides a lot for what we actually have. It is one of the options provided, but there are obviously better choices out there. If they were to look at things with more detail, it would obviously be different. There are more scrupulous details we can dive into, but like many religious folks, they avoid it all together. While a simplistic view of reality can give us hope, this hope is not all we should be dreaming of. Religious thinking as a whole provides a sturdy example of what people do and the poor excuses they have.

The 10 Worst Ways to Waste Time

6. Travel

While having fun is all fun and games, we could be doing something better. The world is the way it is right now because of our fun, and we could be doing something productive. We could be mitigating our fun for things that can make the world less pathetic. Even though we are not dealing with personal issues, it does mean others are not. The world can still see a world of improvement, even if we think that our lives are all the better for our fun. Before long, that fun is done, and there is little to show for it. There are so many things we can make more fun, but we have to give up that frivolous fun to begin with. Unfortunately, the world tends to be too cynical, selfish, and pessimistic to do anything about it.

If parents raised their children to find interest in better things, then fun would be less of an issue. Many people may think that fun is not the problem, but we can all be doing something more productive. Our fun has created a complacent society to a so-called problem that cannot be fixed. At the very least, we can make fun more productive for the individual and society as whole. Even if it comes at the cost of what we are used to now, there is always a better route we could have taken. Some people find it fun to stir up controversy or rape, but this does not make it acceptable. The only ones excusing this behavior are the ones still on the fence about their so-called personal problems.

Just because we do something and are willing to defend it does not mean that it is not a waste. Travel is much the same way, especially when it comes to moving around nowadays. Most people who take trips are not in need of something special. Instead of thinking of better solutions for the here and now, we think of pretending they are lost if we move. You can see it now with people wanting to go to other planets, but the thought comes through necessity. If this trip provides little for the rest of us and creates a lot of wasted inventory, it is a waste of time.

To many, it is a joyride that not only costs a lot of money, it costs a lot of wasted time. Since this time is also money, we are choosing to throw it away on a picture we can ultimately have on our refrigerator. It’s just too bad that way too many tend to see this far too late, but we all have to learn at some point. Even if this travel gets your undies in a bunch, it barely makes it any more worth it. If all you are doing is going to sight-see with a picture or spending excess amounts of money for nothing, you are likely wasting. Even though it seems like it is not a question of time wasted, it certainly is.

For many, travel is there to free the mind, and while it may seem good to them, it proves little in reality. While it seems like the argument is taken too far and moot, the truth speaks otherwise. Even if you are wanting to travel to your next door neighbor’s house, you are probably doing so dubiously. While this travel is not so bad, the good reasons you can gain are sparsely present. In all, no one said that the argument would be something you agree with, but the argument still remains a reason.

The kind of travel that is the biggest waste is anything providing some expensive and grand adventure. There is no doubt that I can rely on at least some people agreeing with me, but it is hard to believe it was the argument. Regardless, any kind of travel is a waste of time, especially in the present, as we have plenty to see. The online world provides us with enough, we have what exists outside of us, and it only serves as a selfish endeavor. Instead of thinking of yourself and how you can get away, think about how the things you avoid can be better.

The 10 Worst Ways to Waste Time

7. Try to Convince People

It happens to be a sad fact of reality that most people are dumb, but plenty of people still think they have hope. This hope can co-exist with reality, but it is only an obvious byproduct of what our existence truly provides. While there is change that can occur when trying to convince someone of something, it never seems worth it. Even writing this article seems like a waste of time, but I still do it because it matters. The problem is that when you are trying to convince someone, it becomes even more difficult. There are reasons for this, as the more you are trying to convince someone, the more important the subject matter. This may not always be true, but it is more likely. You will be creating more problems through passion in trying to convince someone of some obvious extreme.

There will be something of a difference, but the difference is often too rare to see. The average person will often do little to change something, but they will often get lucky. If anyone is even convinced, it is few and far between, as everyone has their minds made up. Persuasion only really happens if they were not already convinced over something simple, but people often dubiously take sides. There is practicality in telling someone when they are wrong, even if it insults them to their core. While it would seem like a reason to avoid it, we often do not, and we should not avoid it.

Unfortunately, we often fight for the wrong things and do it for the wrong reasons and in the wrong ways. The arguments we defend are often ones we can agree with in different contexts, but a true philosophy is one that includes everything. Instead of making these arguments and taking a side, we tend to accept everything with open arms. We do this for fallacious reasons, but we also tend to make our arguments more emotional than honest with emotion. This will help us truly believe that we convinced someone, even though they were fooling you from the start.

While we can still play our emotional games, this should do little to dictate our philosophies. In fact, we should all be having our correct philosophies dictate our actions more. Thankfully, many people do not reinforce their actions with their philosophies, but this is only because they are blatantly incorrect. It should also be recognized that is more important to connect facts than to simply have them. We could learn to be better, but we learn to justify the negativity that comes from us even more.

Unfortunately, too many people lack any facts to begin with, even if they are in the sciences. There is much to say, but connecting the dots of philosophy correctly is difficult. If anything, it is just as impressive as learning how to understand complex science. The answers are right in front of you, but grasping them with logic when they are dangling there is the challenge. The same thing can be said for science, where abstract value relationships are less at play. The facts of science rely more on jargon and a schooled description of what the universe entails. They both provide much of the same, but one relies more on a syllabus than general knowledge.

People struggle to give value arguments credit, and this is where many people present challenge. Many struggle with philosophy, so they think to undermine it by limiting it’s importance. The rigid thinking and preconceived notions get in the way of people being changed. We struggle to require fewer things when it comes to changing our minds. This is why we can justify vices that have no real value, even if we do not know we are. Although bringing someone to your side is an admirable victory, it truly depends. It does not mean that it is not worth it, but it almost feels like a waste of time; there are better solutions out there. The small scale arguments do little good, and you are often convincing someone of little worth. If they have any worth, then they probably have their minds made up against you.

The 10 Worst Ways to Waste Time

8. Be on Social Media

Social media is the addiction that we partake in only because it is there. It serves us little, but because it is a thing, we have to tell ourselves that it is worth it. If things are not going to be any other way, we cannot and should not avoid it. These are the excuses we are always telling ourselves to avoid having to make any kind of change. This recognition would open a box too big to bother for anyone smart enough to lift the lid. Even if we gain some decent things from social media, we are often losing ourselves to it. Social media as a whole is a vice that harms us all more than anything else. It can even lead to insecurity and suicide, which are already on display.

People have become more narcissistic, but the ones who were to begin with have a place to show it. There is nothing good to gain from social media, but it comes down to human tendencies more than anything. We all look for gratification in the worst places, but we not necessarily to blame for them. It still does not mean that we cannot do better and learn, but most people avoid this. They will continue to do the wrong thing for the right reasons and vice versa. Even if avoiding it seems simple, there are step to take to truly reach that simple solution. If it is a race to the bottom or a learning phase for humans, it continues to provides little compensation for it.

Since we are all dysfunctional from birth, we tend to only look at the world through our lens. It is not like we had much of a choice, but this choice means nothing when things can improve. Even if we are unwilling to choose, it does not mean that the improvement is not left viable on the table. We condone all sorts of atrocities and say that it matters little through cynicism. There are even struggles where friends take sides based on fake news while humiliating themselves. You can see where the online world is our ultimate end, but it still provides everything but being good enough.

We think we are on the right side, but we enable so much of what we complain about to begin with. The social media landscape can provide some good by proxy, but any good it offers can be spoken for elsewhere. It is only the website we use that instigates this negativity, but the unhealthy mind can find more reasonable solace. If anything at all, it gives us all something to blame and provides a canvas for this general point. There is nothing that social media provides but vice, vocal separation, and negativity. If you like to take sides and believe lies as well, then social media is the place to be.

Instead of taking the right step in the right direction, we tend to ignore that final step. There are too many things we already waste our time fighting, but we do it anyway. We hide behind our excuses and ignore the consequences to those actions for our own convenience. All of us will even say that hurting ourselves and others is a huge waste of time, but this is what social media is. Even if there are no better ways to get the word out, it still makes it no less of a waste of time. At the very least, we can all be doing our online accounts on Facebook a little bit better. Unfortunately, it would provide too much challenge to actually fight the man. We instead find conflict with our friends and create problems based on public dissonance.

The online world accomplishes very little at the cost of compromising everything it claims to provide. You can see how little good it has done in making the world a better place, but we indulge anyway. It does not stop people from partaking in what social media offers, but there are other options. Instead of taking the bad and only recognizing the good, we can give credit where it is due. Instead of proving how dysfunctional we can be, we can display creativity beyond self-indulgence. The very little you are helping someone on social media can be spent helping elsewhere. If you are even trying to help at all, your online presence is the little you are actually falling back on. While it is good for some things, it is the only place many people go to for any kind of problem solving.

The 10 Worst Ways to Waste Time

9. Watching Things

Be it a YouTube video or a movie, watching things is generally a waste of time. Like the news before it, watching things in general serves as a braindead pastime. We like to watch movies and critique them, but we struggle to criticize our own lives. There is nothing to provide the movie we watch, but we can certainly make the director change how the sequel gets created. Again, I can agree with wanting to do nothing, but this recognition ignores much of what matters. Even though we do not want to jump on the grenade, it is still our obligation. You may not want it to be this way, but it is your ultimate duty that otherwise makes you part of the problem. The issue here is that providing anyone with help displays how life-taking help is required to begin with.

Being complacent and doing nothing is part of this, but doing a bunch of nothing with your time is the worst. If you are simply looking for a way to pass the time, then watching something will certainly do it. Unless you are learning something in the process, you are gaining very little compensation. Even if the video or movie you watch is informative, you are probably taking little away from it. Most of what we watch provides little truth to detail or fact, but we watch it to turn our brains off. If this is all we are doing whilst also accomplishing little during the day, we are wasting our time.

The problem with most of humanity is that they like to watch other people’s failure. It relates to the drama in their lives that they find so hard to let go of. Since they can get a kick out of it, they find inherent worth in what anything can provide. Even at the cost of someone else’s well-being, we can find something worth it. While this is a problem with humanity, we can amend our misgiving a little bit better than this. The excuses we provide for it are that it was funny and useful, but this is only masking the issue. If someone is trying to help someone, then it brings forth the issue even stronger. Although you find it worth your time, it does not mean that it is worthwhile because it is here.

The 10 Worst Ways to Waste Time

10. Play Sports

Like exercise before it, it started as a byproduct of our evolution through energy expenditure. It just happened to be that we can run to avoid things, and we happened to get some exercise. We decided to turn this into sports by giving athletes a bunch of money and wasting our time watching them. Participating in sports is no different, as it serves as an activity that does little good for minor convenience. If turning a meager activity such as running in a tribal competition is good, then you are running from facts. The extension of sports can be felt far and wide, but it often makes people uncomfortable.

Even something like guitar or instruments are a waste of time, but people hate hearing this. Most music provides little commentary but roleplay, especially if the music offers absolutely nothing but perceived preference. I can think of all sorts of music that provides little sustenance, but then again, the average person would cry. They think they are defending with reason, but they are only defending the worst part of our civilization. The unfortunate truth that people like to give and not take is that your feelings mean little. Even if they should matter, the world we live in makes them nearly impossible to matter unless it makes enough sense. This is why we should learn to separate emotion from philosophy while informing ourselves through critical thinking.

To include music is taking an extreme measure into philosophical territory, but they show little value nonetheless. While you can at least make money, music seems to serve more of a reasonable function. Listening to it is a waste of time when doing it too much, but this would almost invalidate my argument. There are better ways to ameliorate ourselves from the past, but we still eat meat. I can say that factory-farming is a complete waste of suffering, but most people barely think about it. If any thought goes into it whatsoever, then people will begin to struggle with the real choice they have to make. If there is any struggle, then it comes from a dissonance that should be squashed. This little struggle is just enough to bring attention to the problems we still have to deal with.

As mentioned above, there is plenty to list, but the list would be endless. There is no end to the waste of time we afford ourselves, but this takes little away from the waste. While we can all find everything worthwhile, we can also find everything a waste of time. The time we have is always passing us by, and we only have so much to waste. Some things just make this waste of time a little more obvious, even if we try to ignore it. Even if the message is redundant, it is the only way to make it click.

If this article did not make the point well enough, then nothing will likely get the job done right. It may sound like an exaggeration, but there is nothing wrong with setting an expectation. While we are always making improvements, there are always better ways to make them in the meantime. Unfortunately, we struggle with doing anything until we find out it’s too late. This is the last thing we should be doing, but it happens to be the hardest lesson to learn. If anything, it can at least motivate people to understand the things they can do better.

It matters little what your personal desires are or what your argument provides, as a waste of time is a waste of time. You can often feel it in yourself, but most of us keep on pushing away at it anyway. If you are not doing something truly productive, then you are taking up valuable time. Time can be spent better elsewhere, even if your emotions learned to rely on said activity before. At the very least, we can be doing more with the little we are doing right now. Even if it seems like a challenge, the challenges we face now are only because of our complacency. We can all motivate ourselves to do better, but we have to look at the real problems first. Instead of waiting for something to happen, we can be the ones to finally take responsibility for our actions.
